The Plague Dogs book cover

The Plague Dogs, one of the most amazing novels I've ever read by Richard Adams, has many sorts of book covers, all just as amazing. This is an old project I did earlier this year. The task was to make a book cover using only illustrations and text you've done free-hand. I only had one goal in mind at the time, to combine the colors I think suit the story the most- white, black and red. The text and illustration were somewhat secondary at the time but after a week or two of work, I managed to put together something that the professor liked.
Illustration wise, I wanted to focus on the two dogs that are the main characters of the story. When we think of dogs, we mostly think about excitement, happiness, warmth and safety, something the two dogs from this novel have never had. They are from a government research station in the Lake District in England, where they had been horribly mistreated and one day escaped. Their freedom was short lived, as bad luck followed them everywhere, along with the military that gave them no rest as it was believed that the two dogs carried the bubonic plague and needed to be rid of. There is just no way out for the two beings.
